Green your mindset: cultivate your greencabulary

Biomimicry: the use of nature to inspire design (a.k.a bionetics).

Self-healing concrete is an example of biomimicry. Capsules of epoxy break when concrete flexes, spilling their material into any cracks in the concrete, passively fixing them.

350 ppm: The amount of carbon dioxide, measured in parts per million, that scientists now think is the safe upper limit for the planet.

Harmony Express: A high speed rail that links the Chinese cities Wuhan and Guangzhou. Trains travel up to 199 mph and have cut travel times between the two cities from eleven hours to three.

Vampire Power: The energy consumed by an appliance that is switched off, but still drawing power through passive energy consumption.

According to the US Department of Energy, about 20 percent of Americans' monthly power bills go toward vampire power.
